2045 Vision

The combined input about the current and future transportation system conveyed strong public support for a set of overlapping ideas about the future of transportation: a more environmentally sustainable transportation system, additional pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure, shorter off-campus transit times, equitable access to transportation services, and a compact urban area that supports active transportation and limits sprawl development.

Future Projects

CUUATS staff used public input from the first round of LRTP 2045 outreach, input from local agencies, and local planning documents to establish the LRTP 2045 goals (safety, multimodal connectivity, economy, equity, and the environment) along with a list of transportation system changes that could contribute to the realization of the goals. Public input regarding the current transportation system called attention to locations in the system that people thought were functioning well and locations where people suggested specific infrastructure improvements.

Modeling

The combined input about the current and future transportation system conveyed strong public support for a set of overlapping ideas about the future of transportation: a more environmentally sustainable transportation system, additional pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure, shorter off-campus transit times, equitable access to transportation services, and a compact urban area that supports active transportation and limits sprawl development. Because of the complementary nature of these ideas, CUUATS staff, with the help of the LRTP 2045 Steering Committee, developed one preferred scenario for 2045 that incorporated these overarching ideas summarized by the LRTP 2045 goals, as well as emerging transportation technology such as electric and automated vehicles (AVs).

Funding

CUUATS staff establishes the 25-year vision for the Metropolitan Planning Area (MPA) transportation system to correspond with available funding for future infrastructure projects. The proposed future projects in the LRTP 2045 align with collective transportation goals for the region, such as reducing emissions, crashes, and the number of roads and bridges in poor condition. This chapter will outline existing revenue sources and expenditures for the transportation system as well as document how staff and local agencies project revenues for the 25-year planning horizon.

Implementation

The LRTP 2045 Vision is about more than just transportation. Public input reinforces the idea that the transportation network is intricately tied to many other conditions in the community including land-use, public health, the environment, and the economy. The overall built environment operates most effectively when all these different processes work together to facilitate safe and efficient mobility to support our individual and collective goals. Plan implementation involves certain standard routine tasks that can be considered on two levels: project-related implementation, and concept-related implementation.
